Leadership and Pastoral Team
St. Teresa of Ávila Catholic Community embraces the model of leadership set forth by the Ecumenical Catholic Communion.
To that end, the People of St. Teresa of Ávila Catholic Community are the governing authority of STA! Just as the constitution of the ECC was ratified by both clergy and laity, the by-laws and governing structure of the community are developed and approved through a collaborative partnership among the STA Leadership Council, the Pastoral Team, the community members and most importantly, our greatest guide, God.
STA embraces the synodal polity structure of the ECC that includes a House of Laity, a House of Pastors and an Episcopal Council - all possessing roles of decision-making and leadership in governing the Communion.
The cross of the ECC symbolizes a deep respect for the historical Catholic tradition of the early Church following the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. At the same time, the Church, the Body of Christ looks to the future knowing full well that we remain unfinished, as does the work of the Church.
We, the Body of Christ, are called to live out the Gospel message in a 21st Century global world, a very different context than the time of the early Church. Using the ECC cross as a symbolic reminder, the Leadership of STA remains firmly rooted in ancient traditions of leadership established in the early Christian Church, guided by God and sensus fidelium, the sense of the faithful. Yet, the STA Leadership and community have a keen awareness that we are are called to build on this tradition responsive leadership and action rooted in humility, justice, and inclusiveness.
